Whether you are a local or a tourist, there are several spots in Costa Rica which are simply a must! These spots are so unique, so magical; that they will literally take your breath away! One of those top list destinations: the striking Del Toro Waterfall!

Located in Sarchi, Alajuela; this 90-meter waterfall is really something out of the ordinary! Del Toro is possibly one of the largest and most impressive waterfalls in the country. Although it does take a two-hour, 4-wheel drive to get here; once you do you will get to see that it was totally worth it!

As most natural attractions, Del Toro waterfall is located on private property which means there is a $10 entrance fee that you need to cover. A parking lot and bathrooms are available before starting your hike downwards to this dreamlike spot.

Del Toro Waterfall is located in Bajos del Toro, a 250-acre reserve of gorgeous primary rainforest. The hike to the waterfall allows you to get up close and personal with the lush Costa Rican rainforest’s flora and fauna.

Although the hike to the waterfall is not that long, it is quite difficult especially when heading back. During the first 15 minutes you’ll be hiking on flat terrain, however at the end of the path you will have to go down over 300 steps. So do make sure you take good quality walking shoes especially during the rainy season!

Once you make it to the bottom, you will get to gaze at such magnificent natural wonder! Del Toro waterfall is remarkable not only because of its astonishing height, but also because it drops into an extinct volcanic crater. The unique rock formations which surround it are almost as stunning as the waterfall itself!

Swimming in the waterhole and chilling by the waterfall are usually the crowd favorite. But surely you will want to spend a good amount of time down there so that you can really take in the spectacular view!

Once you are ready to head back, you can always stop at the area’s on-site restaurant for a good Costa Rican lunch to lift your energy back up!

Don’t you dare to miss such a sensational experience! Get your walking shoes on and visit this one-of-a-kind amazing site!
