There’s nothing better than finding the perfect hiking place to spend a weekend at! A mixture of nature, scenic beauty and awesome hiking trails: this is what you will find at Hacienda Baru!
Hacienda Baru is a 330-hectare wildlife refuge located on the pacific side of Costa Rica. It offers the most incredible opportunities to get close to nature, with some of the most cozy and comfortable accommodations you can find.
This eco-lodge is located about 3-3.5 hours from San Jose, near the Dominical and Quepos beaches (some of the most gorgeous in the country). Both beaches are famous for its many activities, especially surfing. Roads to both the beaches as well as Hacienda Baru are quite good so any compact car will get you there. If you like to explore, we recommend you take a 4x4 car.
At Hacienda Baru there are tons of activities you can take part on, it really just depends on how much of an adrenaline junkie are you. Some of your choices are: deep-sea fishing, horseback riding, snorkeling and even kayaking. Also, you may choose to go on bird watching tours or night tours or even go all out on a zip-lining adventure.
But probably the coolest thing you can do at Hacienda Baru is to explore its five fantastic hiking trails!
The shortest one is the Pizote Trail which is about 1.5 kilometers long. This path is great if you are into wildlife. You are sure to bump into animals like peccaries, butterflies, coati’s and even white-faced monkeys!
If you are more of a bird lover, then you must hike the Strangler, Teak or Canal trails. All of these are around 2 kilometers long, and are known for taking you right through the rainforest. Here, you will be able to spot over 300 kinds of birds – yeah it’s absolutely amazing!
The last trail is the longest one but probably the coolest as it ascends up a hill to a scenic view of Dominical. The hike is about 2.5 kilometers long with some steep hills.
You may not want to do all hikes in one day, so Hacienda Baru offers some great accommodations. There’s really no excuse, visiting Hacienda Baru is a must for all nature and hiking lovers!
